At Seton Hall University, Griffin, a three-year starter, as a senior averaged 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, and won All-Big East second-team honors. In 2010, he was inducted into the Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame.

In July 2023, Adrian’s son Alan lost his son Jayce D. Griffin, Adrian’s grandson. The 2-year-old was found unresponsive by his father, Alan Griffin, in Champaign, and was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m. in the Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department in Urbana, Illinois.
The coroner’s office said preliminary reports from an autopsy conducted showed no evidence of trauma or foul play.
“At this time, the death of Jayce Griffin appears to be from natural causes pending additional testing and final autopsy results,” Northrup said in a statement.
The child was in the care of his father Alan when he died.

“This was a difficult decision to make during the season,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst said in a statement announcing the move. “We are working immediately toward hiring our next head coach. We thank Coach Griffin for his hard work and contributions to the team.”
Joe Prunty, who had been an assistant coach on Griffin’s staff, will serve as the Bucks’ interim head coach.
Griffin was named head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks on June 5, 2023, succeeding Mike Budenholzer, who led the Bucks in 2021 to their first title in half a century. The Bucks had posted the most combined regular-season and playoff wins of any team during Budenholzer’s tenure and had the league’s best regular-season record in three of his five seasons on the job.
Budenholzer’s firing came after the top-seeded Bucks were stunned 4-1 by the Miami Heat in the first round of last season’s playoffs.
Griffin had spent 16 seasons as an NBA assistant, including the last five with the Toronto Raptors. That followed a nine-year NBA playing career.
